WASHINGTON D.C. – In the past, he’s referred to Americans as “evil,” “infidels,” and “imperialists,” but in a new tape that was mailed to the FBI on Saturday, terrorist Osama bin Laden referred to Americans as “silly geese.” What bin Laden specifically said was, “Americans think that they can continue their war on Muslim people for as long as they want. Well, I’m here to tell you that the Americans are silly geese.”
Some people are relieved that bin Laden is using such soft language. One of those people is UCLA psychologist Monique Soltani, who said, “For years, bin Laden was using very harsh, very direct language. Now he’s suddenly using language that seems childish, which is a strong indication that his will to commit to violent, destructive causes is weakening. This was further shown later on in the tape when he referred to President Bush as ‘a real meanie.’ “ Sociolinguist Olivia Demerest found bin Laden’s comments refreshing, saying, “It’s nice to hear someone use the plural form of ‘silly goose.’ You never really hear that.”
Bin Laden is still at large for the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and for the 1998 bombings of US embassies in Kenya and the Sudan. He’s believed to be hiding somewhere on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
